Step 1
Proliferating muscle stem cells (skeletal or cardiac muscle) are isolated from normal or diseased animals or humans and tissue engineered by proprietary techniques into contractile muscle tissue.

Step 2
The muscle tissue is electrically stimulated before and after the addition of test compounds for days to weeks and changes in muscle strength, fatigue and injury are measured automatically with custom designed robotic hardware and software.

This process is eight times faster and six times less expensive than comparable functional drug screening in small animals.
